During a press conference in the "Accountability to the Nation" program at the Government Information and Media Center on Sunday, September 22, 2024, the authorities of state-owned companies shared annual reports of achievements and activities of these departments with the media.
Mr. Mohammad Naseer Rahimi (Engineer Hasan), CEO of Afghanistan Oil and Gas Corporation (AOGC), also participated in the press conference and presented information about petroleum products in the country.
Mr. Rahimi said about the price and quality of petroleum products; there has been an improvement in the quality and price of oil and gas. As it is clear to all, in the past, mafia groups in the transportation of petroleum products, corruption in government administrations, foreign occupation, and unsound competition were major elements that had a negative impact on the quality of petroleum products, but now these elements have been eradicated.
Mr. Rahimi added that there are some challenges, such as the lack of laboratories in ports; this problem has created obstacles in the quality and transportation of petroleum products, but thanks be to Allah, Amirul Momineen, may Allah protect him, has approved a budget of 300 million Afghani to solve this problem.
He said in response to a question that it is difficult to provide the exact price of petroleum products because there are many other factors that can affect the price of petroleum products, such as currency exchange, prices in international markets, political situations in countries, unsound competition in the markets, increasing demand in the country...
Mr. Rahimi said about the quantity and quality of domestic production; currently, we have 2,700,100 tons of domestic production of petroleum from oil fields in the north, which meets 10% of the annual requirement.
Also, he said in terms of quality that there is no refinery in the country to standardize the quality of domestically produced oil. In this section, domestically produced oil is mixed with high-quality imported oil, and it is delivered and distributed to the market with the permission of ANSA for the purpose of profit.
Mr. Rahimi added that in the contract signed between the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and Af-Chin, the obligation of the company is to raise the daily production level to 4700 tons within five years. If Af-Chin achieved its target, 67% of the market's needs would be met from domestic production.
In addition to this, Mr. Rahimi added, we import two to three million tons of petroleum products annually from abroad.
Naturally, the price of gas increases in winter because the demand from citizens increases. The corporation has built 85 gas stations in different areas, which has now reached 117, and this series continues. In the course of this work, job opportunities are created for the Afghans, and it also plays an important role in controlling the price of gas, and we have made full preparations for the future.
